The Budget Travel site appears to be getting a better voter turnout than our November elections in their latest poll. Why you might ask? Well, if there’s one thing we’re all pretty proud of it’s our little fishing village here at the mouth of the Columbia River!
Remember when we were named one of the most affordable places to retire back in 2005? Fast forward and here we are in 2011 even more affordable than back then and a whole lot hipper! Check out this article to see what the locals and recent visitors think sets us apart. If you love Astoria as much as we do then please cast your vote!

No matter how afar you travel, or where you live, Astoria will always be home! I was born and raised in Astoria and ended up on the east coast. My heart and family are still in Astoria. It’s so wonderful to come back home and see the same shops, restaurants, and especially the Bakeries still there humming along. What is great to see are the new shops and art galleries that have popped up. You really can’t walk down the streets without running into someone you know and stop to have a chat.
Astoria has a sense of community and that was never been more evident than after the recent fire that destroyed several businesses. The towns people rallied around the business owners to find office space and other necessities for these folks.
The sunsets are unbelievably beautiful and words just can’t describe their magnificence. They must be seen first hand. You have the Columbia River, the wonderful lakes, mountains and the mighty Pacific Ocean at your disposal. Everything in one compact area.
So come visit and see for yourself why Astoria really is the Coolest Small Town in America. Once you visit, you’ll keep coming back!
